
PepsiCo will announce its second-quarter 2017 results tomorrow. Here, just-drinks takes a closer look at the company’s performance in the three months to 17 June.
- At the start of the quarter, PepsiCo lined up the launch of its Tropicana Essentials range in India as the company continued to expand its “nutrition” portfolio in the country
- In April, The Coca-Cola Co ended PepsiCo’s almost two-decade sponsorship of Major League Baseball in the US
- A few days later, the company was forced to pull a Kendall Jenner Pepsi Moments ad after consumers attacked the campaign for appearing to make light of protest marches
- Later in the month, PepsiCo announced a US$106,000 prize to help uncover Europe’s next big idea in nutrition, under the PepsiCo Nutrition Greenhouse incubator project
- Towards the end of April, the company temporarily removed its craft-style beverages, Stubborn Soda and Caleb’s Kola, from US shelves after they were mistakenly made with beet sugar instead of cane
- At the start of May, PepsiCo expanded the launch of its “next generation” Lemon Lemon soda to Western Europe
- Also in May, the company opened its fourth concentrates plant in Asia – a US$93m investment
- Later in the month, PepsiCo signed a partnership with online and mobile commerce giant Alibaba Group in a bid to develop its e-commerce capabilities in China
- At the end of May, PepsiCo announced plans to sell its stake in its UK & Ireland distributor, Britvic, as it continued cost-cutting measures
- At the same time, the firm declined to comment on a report it was preparing a takeover bid for coconut water producer Vita Coco
- At the end of the quarter, PepsiCo announced the benefactors of its Nutrition Greenhouse programme, which included Tapped Birch Water owner Nature On Tap.
