Iowa-based Templeton Rye has unveiled the second expression in the ‘Barrel Finish’ line of bottlings from its namesake rye whiskey brand.

A total of 4,000 cases of the latest iteration are available, 3,500 of which are destined for the US. The remaining 500 are for exports, with 150 cases available in European Union markets.

The five-year-old whiskey has been finished for a further six months in ex-dark rum casks from Jamaica.

“We are thrilled to be launching the second limited-edition expression in our Barrel Finish Series following the success of our Maple Cask Finish release last fall,” said senior brand ambassador Tim Grimes. “We wanted to ensure that our secondary maturation would impart the rum characteristics and flavours that we envisioned in the whiskey.”

Templeton Rye started producing spirit at its own distillery in Iowa two years ago. The craft distiller’s current for-sale stock is produced in Indiana with the new facility’s whiskey set to go on sale in 2022.
