US wine company WarRoom Cellars has acquired the Riesling brand Pacific Rim.

Announcing the deal yesterday (29 July), WarRoom Cellars said the deal reunites Pacific Rim with Bonny Doon Vineyard in its portfolio more than three decades after Randall Grahm founded the Riesling brand in 1992.

Grahm sold Bonny Doon Vineyard to WarRoom in 2020.

WarRoom Cellars president Andrew Nelson said: “Pacific Rim fits perfectly into our long-term goals as a company, including our work with founders whenever possible.”

He added: “Working with Randall on Bonny Doon wines has continually inspired the WarRoom team to explore new avenues in winemaking.”

Pacific Rim started as a Riesling blend made with fruit from Washington, California and Germany.

In 2007, Grahm moved the brand and team to Washington’s Columbia Valley, creating what WarRoom described as the US’ “only winery devoted exclusively to Riesling”.

Grahm sold Pacific Rim Wine Company in 2011 to the Mariani family of Banfi Vintners to focus on Bonny Doon Vineyard.

Nicole Walsh, WarRoom Cellars’ director of winemaking, previously worked on the brand during her time at Bonny Doon.

She said: “I’m thrilled about the opportunity to work with Pacific Rim again. It’s a beloved brand I started working with 25 years ago while at Bonny Doon Vineyard.”

A representative of Pacific Rim’s seller said the brand would continue with “a partner that shares a strong commitment to its future success”.

The acquisition adds to a series of deals completed by California-based WarRoom Cellars.

In September, it acquired Oregon’s Iris Vineyards and, two months later, it struck a deal with The Wine Group for the Simi brand.

The group’s sales and distribution are handled through partner Total Beverage Solution.
