The move concludes the Guinness and Johnnie Walker owner’s search for a successor following Debra Crew’s departure in July.
The London business is “delivering more than $100m in revenue this year, profitably” and aims to more than double that figure next year.
The deal values the food-and-drinks manufacturer at US$2.9bn.
The company said the expansion marks the “largest single” investment since the Lisburn plant opened in 2008.
“We remain committed to building a winning, simpler portfolio by exiting unprofitable or low-margin tail SKUs” – interim CEO Alison Lewis.
The company said CFO Graeme Jenkins and CCO Doug Bagley will lead the business.
Tequila, which accounts for around 13% of Diageo’s group sales, is seeing slowing demand in the US, a key market for the spirit.
EU wine trade body the CEEV said the "reduced alcohol" terminology was "less comprehensible to consumers".
