Italian wine group Tommasi Family Estates has acquired two wine properties in the southern state of Puglia.

In a statement issued on Friday (5 September), Tommasi Family Estates said it had snapped up Tenuta Eméra in Lizzano and Cantina Moros further east in Guagnano.

The Tommasi family has been present in Puglia, with its Masseria Surani winery and vineyards in Manduria, since 2012.

“This acquisition is a great opportunity for our family," Giancarlo Tommasi, winemaker and technical director at Tommasi Family Estates, said. “Masseria Surani is now strengthened with a new winemaking and bottling cellar, allowing us to expand our winemaking heritage to more than 800 hectares throughout Italy.

“Alongside this expansion, Masseria Surani's wine tourism project is also growing , in iconic locations of authentic Puglia. These locations complete the mosaic of hospitality in our wineries, from Valpolicella Classica to Montalcino, all the way to Vulture in Basilicata.”

Alessandra Quarta had led the Tenuta Eméra in Lizzano and Cantina Moros since 2023, taking the reins from her father. She will remain with Tomassi Family Estates.

Quarta said: “I’ve been leading the company since 2023 and amid the challenges of global markets, I was looking for a solid foundation to continue growing. I’m certain that, together with the Tommasi family, we can continue to develop the project begun by my father and make it flourish; creating new opportunities for the local area from a sustainable perspective and increasingly aware of its own value.”
