Spanish wine group Félix Solís Avantis has acquired three local wine brands: Federico Paternina, Lagunilla and Rioja Santiago.

In a statement, the business said the deal "strengthens Félix Solís’ position as one of Spain’s leading wine groups, with a significant presence across the country’s main wine-producing regions and leading positions in Toro, Valdepeñas and Rueda".

Financial terms were not disclosed.

According to reports from local media, including El Economista, the firm has snapped up the wine brands from the former owner of La Marques de la Concordia winery, Grupo Arco.

Félix Solís confirmed to Just Drinks the details in the report were correct.

Last month, another Spanish business, Muriel Wines, acquired the Marqués de la Concordia brand. It then said the deal took place “as part of the public auction held during the liquidation process” of the “previous owner group” behind Marqués de la Concordia.

The company told Just Drinks it bought the brand as part of an insolvency and liquidation process that involved the Spanish entities Grupo Marqués de la Concordia Family of Wines, United Wineries Estates and United Wineries.

According to Félix Solís, the Federico Paternina brand "is one of the great historic wineries of La Rioja", and Lagunilla is also "deeply rooted in La Rioja's winemaking tradition", while Rioja Santiago "is one of the region's oldest wine producers".

In the statement, Félix Solís Yáñez, the chairman and CEO of the family-owned company, said: "These are three names that form part of the history of Rioja wine and deserve to continue playing an important role in the future of the region.

“We want to bring our experience, commercial capabilities and international outlook to enhance the value of this heritage and help these brands continue to grow and reach new consumers and markets."

Just Drinks has asked the group for more details on the deal and the three Rioja brands, including on where they are sold and produced.

Founded in 1952, Félix Solís operates wineries across Spain including in Valdepeñas, where it is headquartered, as well as La Mancha, Rioja and Ribera del Duero.

The group's wine brands include The Guv'nor, Viña Albali, Los Molinos and Mucho Más.

It exports its wines to more than 135 countries worldwide, and operates 11 global subsidiaries.
