Refresco has agreed to acquire the business operations of insolvent German mineral-water and soft-drinks producer Rhenser Mineralbrunnen.

The move comes after an agreement was reached with Rhenser Mineralbrunnen's provisional insolvency administrator and company MD Holger Sieck. A creditors’ committee for the business has also approved the transaction.

In a statement, Refresco said the deal would ensure the “preservation and continuation” of the Rhens-based company.

Rhenser Mineralbrunnen produces mineral water, flavoured waters and sodas under brands such as Rhenser, Silvetta and WasserGlück. The company filed for preliminary insolvency in March.

The transaction covers assets including the manufacturing facilities at the Rhens location. However, the financial terms were not disclosed.

The majority of Rhenser Mineralbrunnen's employees are expected to join Refresco, although the new owner did not disclose numbers and declined to comment when approached by Just Drinks.

In the statement, Guido Kühne, the MD of Refresco's German arm, said: “With the planned integration of Rhenser Mineralbrunnen, we are specifically strengthening our brand portfolio and our production capacities in the area of mineral water in glass."

The transaction is expected to be completed on 1 August, subject to customary closing conditions.

Refresco's German arm makes fruit juices, soft drinks and milk alternatives for retail customers. It also manufactures for other brands.

The company employs around 1,650 people across Germany at ten production sites and two office locations.

Refresco generated revenue of €6.1bn in 2025, up from €6bn in 2024. The Dutch group reduced its net loss to €25m from €204m a year earlier.

Earlier this year, Refresco snapped up US food-and-beverage group SunOpta to bolster its business in the plant-based drinks market.
