Marie Brizard sales struggles continue

The France-based wine-and-spirits group has come under particular pressure in its domestic market.

Marie Brizard Wine and Spirits has reported another quarter of declining sales, with its home market of France proving a particular tough spot.

The company yesterday (23 October) posted a 10.8% drop in third-quarter sales to €40.9m ($47.5m).

In France, Marie Brizard saw its sales slide 23.4% amid delistings suffered by Scotch whisky brand William Peel.

Outside France, the group’s sales dipped 1.6%. Pressure on sales in Denmark and Bulgaria was offset by a “strong performance” in Spain and Lithuania from the company’s industrial-services business.

Marie Brizard’s industrial-services division includes bottling sub-contracts for third-party brand owners and private-label clients.

Over the first nine months of 2025, the group’s sales fell 9.5% to €127.5m. Sales in France were down 19.3% year on year. Outside France, sales were 1.7% lower.

The company has sought to cut costs and become more productive to bolster profits. Just Drinks has approached Marie Brizard for further details.

In the trading update, the group said it had also moved to “diversify its offering” thought its industrial-services arm and the distribution of agency brands. It described the units as “two segments that are performing well and demonstrating real growth potential”.

Marie Brizard added: “The group continues to actively pursue the identification of suitable and profitable growth opportunities, both organic and external, by galvanising initiatives within its two clusters with a view to long-term development amid continuing consolidation in the wine and spirits market.”

Just Drinks has asked if those efforts include potential acquisitions and disposals.
