Scotch whisky distiller Gordon & MacPhail has appointed Mark Geary as its new CEO.
Geary, who has been acting as interim chief executive, brings over 25 years of experience in the global spirits sector.
The company, in a statement today (17 September), highlighted that Geary's new role will involve focusing on “driving strategic brand growth internationally and strengthening the company’s commercial and marketing capabilities across its portfolio”.
Established in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail’s portfolio includes brands such as The Cairn, Benromach and Red Door.
Geary’s career includes 12 years at The Macallan distiller Edrington, where he held roles including director for the Highland Park distiller calls its "super-premium" stable of brands.
The Elgin, Scotland-based company added that Geary has also worked as a consultant, offering advice to drinks businesses.
Neil Urquhart, chair at Gordon & MacPhail, said Geary’s “proven track record in developing global brands, combined with his experience leading multi-country teams and delivering strategic growth, makes him an ideal fit as we continue to expand our international footprint and invest in the long-term future of our business”.
Geary’s appointment at Gordon & MacPhail comes after Phillip White stepped down as CEO in May this year.
White, who stepped into the role in April 2024, “left the business to pursue other opportunities and interests”, a spokesperson for Gordon & MacPhail confirmed the time.
According to Geary’s LinkedIn profile, he started as interim chief executive at the distiller in July.
Commenting on his appointment, Geary said: “Gordon & MacPhail is a company with an exceptional heritage and an ambitious vision for the future.
“I am excited to be joining the team at such a pivotal time and look forward to contributing my experience to help unlock growth opportunities for its brands on a global scale, while supporting the development of its talented people.”
The appointment also follows what Gordon & MacPhail described as a “multi-million-pound warehouse expansion” at the Benromach Distillery located in Forres, Moray.
In addition, Gordon & MacPhail operates The Cairn distillery near Grantown-on-Spey.
