The Coca-Cola Co and PepsiCo have both issued statements confirming suspensions of their CSD sales in Russia in response to the country's invasion of Ukraine. In a widely anticipated move, Coca-Cola confirmed the suspension of its entire business in Russia, while PepsiCo has paused the sales of its namesake and global beverage brands in the country, but will continue to sell essentials such as milk and baby formula. The moves follow days of protest on Social Media, with some consumers calling for boycotts of the pair over their prior hesitancy to suspend operations. Issuing a statement on Tuesday (8 March), Coca-Cola said that its "hearts are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects from the tragic events in Ukraine". The soft drinks giant continues to monitor and assess the situation in the region. PepsiCo had previously been reported as being 'reluctant' to pull out of the country due to concerns over the potential impact on its employees along with workers in its supply chain. PepsiCo has 20,000 Russian associates and the country represents around 4% of its global sales. The group is also suspending capital investments and advertising and promotional activities in the country. Earlier this month, spirits rivals Diageo and Pernod Ricard confirmed similar suspensions of their exports to Russia.
