Swedish distiller Mackmyra has launched a limited-edition single malt whisky as part of its ‘Seasonal’ series of bottlings. Taking its name from the Swedish words for ‘birch’ and ‘sap’, Björksav was partially matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and ex-Oloroso casks as well as birch sap casks previously used by Swedish winery Grythyttan Vin.
Each year, the company releases two limited-edition expressions that feature the prevailing season’s flavours, such as last August’s Jaktlycka – a whisky aged in ex- Grythyttan Vin berry wine casks.
In 2019, Mackmyra released Intelligens, a whisky it claimed to be the first in the world made using artificial intelligence.
