Ceremony Coffee will bring six retail locations, a roasting operation, cold brew offerings and an e-commerce business to FairWave’s portfolio.

Vincent Latesta founded Ceremony Coffee in 2002, opening the first café in Annapolis, Maryland. He will continue to lead the team, focusing on updating systems and expanding capabilities in Annapolis.

The acquisition is the latest move by Missouri-based FairWave, which was launched in 2020 by private-equity firm Great Range Capital.

The collective aims to “elevate and support speciality coffee brands that are leading locally”, with added expertise and resources.

Ceremony Coffee is the first Maryland-based company to join FairWave, which counts among its members companies such as Messenger, The Roasterie and Spyhouse.

Latesta said: “The essence of Ceremony will look and feel the same, the same warm cafés, friendly baristas and exceptional coffee, now backed by an even stronger support system.

“As part of the Collective, we will begin to see the advantages of our new resources, systems and expertise infused into the quality of our work, spaces and culture.”

FairWave Collective’s president of growth, Isaac Hodges, said: “It is an honour to welcome Ceremony Coffee Roasters to the FairWave Collective.

“The people and passion for speciality coffee is evident throughout the organisation, and we’re looking forward to growing together.”

In June 2023, FairWave acquired Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company from Milwaukee, marking its tenth brand acquisition.

A month earlier, FairWave took over Folly Coffee Roasters and Philtera Cold Brewed Coffees, both based in Minnesota.
