Adnams has announced details of a limited-edition collaboration beer with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co in the US, to celebrate the UK brewer’s 150th anniversary. Eastern Edge is designed to reflect a meeting of the two brewers’ flagship products - Adnams Southwold Bitter and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. The 4.8% pale ale will be available to purchase from 25 April in 44cl cans and in cask and keg in Adnams' pubs across the UK. The beer, which was fermented with both brewers' house yeast strains and contains a combination of US and UK hops, carries an SRP of GBP2.25 (US$2.93) per can. “Adnams' house yeast, which has been used since the 1920s, and Sierra Nevada’s ‘Chico’ yeast, have given the breweries their distinct flavours for many years,” said Adnams head brewer Dan Gooderham. “American hops are such an essential component for Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale, so we decided to source some UK-grown hops of the same variety to add even more depth of flavour to Eastern Edge.” Last year, Sierra Nevada debuted a new seasonal Amber Märzen in the US. The 5.5% abv lager was described by the company as an “ode” to Germany’s annual Oktoberfest. Why beer’s social conscience is not without consumer risk – comment
