Carlsberg will release it fourth-quarter and full-year results on Wednesday. Here, just-drinks takes a look at the Danish brewer’s news in the three months to the end of December:
- In October, the group announced a restructuring of its UK executive team to create two new sales director roles
- At the end of the month, the brewer completed its takeover of Chongqing Beer Group’s remaining brewing interests in China. The transaction, which was first announced in December 2013, sees Carlsberg take over eight breweries and one malting plant
- In November, Carlsberg welcomed the on-going passage of a bill to freeze beer duty in Russia, describing it as a “positive development”
- In the same month, the company lined up a merger in Greece with the third-largest brewer in the country, Olympic Brewery
- Also in November, Isaac Sheps, the head of Carlsberg’s Russian unit, Baltika, confirmed his intention to step down from the position
- In December, CEO Jørgen Buhl Rasmussen said it is “hard to see” a quick solution to the brewer’s problems in Russia. Rasmussen also said he expects its brewery in Myanmar to begin production early next year
- At the same time, the brewer announced it is lining up a major focus on “healthy” no- and low-alcohol beer, starting with the launch of new radler-style beer Tourtel Twist in France this year.
