Drinks companies have for years now been under pressure to leave plastic packaging in the cold but it wasn’t until summer 2020 that the race to find ‘sustainable’ alternatives really began to heat up. “This bottle has the potential to be truly ground-breaking,” said Ewan Andrew, chief sustainability officer at Diageo, as the company unveiled a new paper bottle for its Johnnie Walker whisky that would be available “in 2021”.
