Unilever is expanding its Liquid IV powdered hydration brand into five more European markets.

The UK-based consumer goods giant is launching the brand into Spain, Germany, France, Sweden and Iceland.

Liquid IV is already sold in the UK and Italy in Europe.

Outside of Europe, the brand will also be launched in South Korea this year.

In a statement, Unilever said the rollout marks the next phase of the brand’s international expansion and takes Liquid IV to 15 markets globally.

In Spain and Germany, the brand will launch via Amazon, while Spain will also be served through Costco. France, Sweden and Iceland will be supplied through Costco.

Liquid IV, which Unilever acquired in 2020, sells electrolyte drink powder mixes.

The European expansion follows “strong momentum" in the UK, the group said.

Gaurav Raisinghani, the CEO of Unilever's Wellbeing Collective International business, said: “Liquid IV’s expansion across Europe marks an exciting new chapter for one of the leading powdered hydration brands.”

He added: “Following the strong momentum we’ve seen in the UK, we see a significant opportunity to bring Liquid IV’s science-backed approach to enhanced hydration to more consumers across Europe.”

Unilever said it will roll out both Liquid IV Hydration Multiplier and Liquid IV Sugar Free in the new markets.

The company added that the brand has completed 15 clinical studies and is continuing to invest in hydration research, including work tied to its sugar-free formulations.

“Consumers are intentional about the products they choose, especially in wellness,” Raisinghani said.

“Liquid IV is continuing to invest in science and clinical research to develop products that deliver on our brand promises – great taste and enhanced hydration.”

Liquid IV launched in the US in 2015 and has expanded into 14 additional markets over the past three years, Unilever said.

In 2024, Unilever pledged $80m to expand Liquid IV production in the US.

The move comes as Unilever continues to build out its health and wellbeing portfolio.

In April, Unilever struck an agreement to acquire US nutritional supplements company Grüns.

Unilever is home to supplement brands including Olly, SmartyPants and Onnit.

The company has also made minority investments in businesses in the sector through its Unilever Ventures arm.
