Welsh gin label Cygnet Gin has entered the US through a nationwide distribution agreement with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.

Under the deal, Southern Glazer’s will begin distributing Cygnet Gin next month.

The initial focus will be on the brand’s core products, Cygnet 22 and Cygnet 77, which carry suggested retail prices of $66 and $150, respectively.

Matteo Fantacchiotti, the chairman of Cygnet Gin, described the agreement with Southern Glazer’s as a “defining moment” for the company.

“Their [Southern Glazer’s] scale, expertise, and passion for premium spirits make them the ideal collaborator to help us on our mission to build a new luxury segment in gin and to create more value for consumers and customers,” Fantacchiotti said.

The early roll-out of the gins will centre on New York City, Miami, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Cygnet Gin said the US push will target “top bars, high-end restaurants, and speciality retailers”.

The brand was launched in 2023 by singer Katherine Jenkins and her husband, film director Andrew Levitas.

Until now, its products have been available only in the UK. Cygnet Gin is listed in upmarket on-trade locations including Searcys Estate, The Ivy Collection and The Cosy Club bars and restaurants.

The company also has listings at UK retailers Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, along with regional Tesco and Co-op stores throughout Wales.

At the start of this year, Cygnet Gin moved its production to Penderyn Distillery, at the Welsh whisky distiller’s site in Swansea.

The Penderyn site, which opened in 2023 with a £3.8m lottery grant, includes a visitor centre and has an annual capacity of 400,000 litres.

Former Campari Group CEO Fantacchiotti invested in Cygnet Gin and became the UK distiller’s chairman last December.
