A court in New Delhi has reportedly rejected an appeal from Pernod Ricard to resume selling in the Indian capital.
According to Reuters, the spirits giant failed to convince the court to allow the Absolut vodka maker re-start trading in the city.
Pernod declined to comment when approached by Just Drinks.
The reported ruling is the latest blow for the French group in India.
Last month, India’s competition watchdog ordered an investigation into claims Pernod illegally colluded with retailers to boost sales in New Delhi, allegations the Jameson whiskey owner denies.
Reuters said on Friday a high court judge in New Delhi had cited the case in his verdict, insisting the probe makes Pernod “ineligible” for a licence.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is examining allegations the spirits giant breached rules in its dealings with retail customers in New Delhi.
Pernod said last month it “unequivocally denies any wrongdoing”.
The company added: “We operate to the highest standards of compliance and governance and we are confident that our business practices fully adhere to the laws and regulations of the country.”
In Pernod’s 2024/2025 financial year, the company generated 13% of its €10.96bn in net sales in India.
In December 2024, the CCI raided offices of Pernod and Anheuser-Busch InBev in the Indian city of Hyderabad, reportedly looking into claims of colluding with retailers on price.
That same month, Pernod denied claims executives broke liquor laws in Delhi through collusion with retailers.
