Northlight Wine Collective has made its first winery acquisition, buying British Columbia-based Meyer Family Vineyards and Mayhem Wines.

In a statement, the Ontario-based investment company said the purchase is in line with its “strategy to acquire, invest in and steward premium Canadian wine businesses".

It added "many founder-led wineries" across Canada are entering "a period of generational transition”.

The deal gives Northlight Wine Collective ownership of the operating businesses behind the two wine brands, including the winery, vineyards, trademarks and related assets. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 2006 by Jak Meyer and Janice Stevens-Meyer, Meyer Family Vineyards is known for small-lot Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produced in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley.

According to its website, the winery sources fruit from three main vineyards: McLean Creek Road in Okanagan Falls, Old Main Road on the Naramata Bench and Lakehill Road in Kaleden.

Mayhem Wines was launched in 2018 by the Meyer family in partnership with Jak’s sister Terry Meyer Stone and her husband Andrew Stone.

The brand produces a wider mix of wine styles and varieties sourced from vineyard sites across the region.

Its vineyard base includes Anarchist Mountain in Osoyoos and leased sites in Kaleden, alongside grower partnerships across the Okanagan Valley.

José Salgado, Northlight Wine Collective's founder and CEO, said the acquired businesses have “earned the trust of customers through exceptional wines, disciplined craftsmanship and a clear sense of identity".

Northlight Wine Collective was founded in 2024 and says it is “dedicated exclusively to premium winery succession”.

For the sellers, succession planning was a key factor in the transaction.

“As we looked toward succession, we wanted to find an owner who respected what we had built and shared our long-term vision,” said Jak Meyer.

“We believe Northlight is the right partner to carry these wineries forward while preserving the character that has always defined them.”

The existing winery team, including winemaker Chris Carson, will remain in place. The Meyers will also stay involved during a transition period.
