It marks Tenuta Ulisse's second acquisition this year.

Italian winemaker Tenuta Ulisse, owned by Milan-based investment firm White Bridge Investments, has acquired local vintner Montevetrano for an unknown sum.

Based in the southwestern Campania region of Italy, Montevetrano focuses on making "high-end wines", a joint statement from both businesses said.

"Montevetrano is recognised as one of the most awarded wines in southern Italy and among the most celebrated in the country, a true 'cult wine' in the national winemaking world", the statement added.

The Montevetrano purchase marks Tenuta Ulisse's second buy this year, following its snap-up of the Abruzzo-based organic vintner Cirelli Wines in May.

Set up in the 1990s by Silvia Imparato, Montevetrano's portfolio includes a range of red wines under its namesake label and red and white varieties under the Core brand.

With the deal, Tenuta Ulisse looks to create "a multi-regional platform focused on the excellence of central and southern Italy", the joint statement said.

It added that the move would be "integrating production traditions of great territorial value and strengthening its presence in international markets".

According to its website, Montevetrano has a 26-acre estate which includes five vineyards situated in the San Cipriano Picentino region.

The group sells to 20 countries with its main markets including the UK, Switzerland and Japan. Roughly 40% of its sales come from global markets.

Commenting on the deal, Luigi Ulisse, CEO of Tenuta Ulisse, said: "Following the entry of Cirelli, the acquisition of Montevetrano represents a further step in building our growth project: creating a group capable of enhancing the territorial identities of central and southern Italy through a range of wines of the highest quality.

"Montevetrano is a symbol of Campania viticulture and combines tradition, research, and an international vision: a fundamental element for the platform we are building."

Silvia Imparato, Montevetrano's founder, added the sale of the business "is not giving up its identity, but rather strengthening it and projecting it towards an even broader dimension".

She added: "In a changing world, Montevetrano faces a new challenge of evolution and development, aware of its charisma and the role it has earned in the international winemaking scene."

White Bridge Investments has owned a majority stake in Tenuta Ulisse since 2022.

The Abruzzo-based winemaker generates roughly 60% of its sales internationally. Its key global markets include Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and some countries in Asia.
