Vinexpo Bordeaux 2017 – just-drinks diary – 5 June

Coming up at this year’s Vinexpo exhibition in Bordeaux:

• From 1400 on Sunday 18 June, sommelier Gerard Basset will join a panel to discuss the importance of sommeliers to both the on-premise and to wine firms. Restaurant managers and wine-growers, the sommelier is your indispensable ally takes place in room 1. Basset will present the conference along with Bertrand Gabriel Vigouroux – CEO, Domaine Georges Vigouroux – Relais & Châteaux Château de Mercuès, Fabrice Sommier – F&B manager, Relais & Châteaux Georges Blanc and Raimonds Tomsons – sommelier competition winner
• Fire & Rain: Climate Change and the Wine Industry will take place in the Forum at 1500 on 18 June. Panellists include Wine Spectator senior editor Dana Nigro, Barack Obama’s former science advisor, John Holdren and Bodegas Torres president Miguel Torres. The group will discuss the impact of climate change on viticulture and wine quality
• Conference Great Wine Capitals will take place in room 5 from 1530 on Sunday 18 June. The session will be presented by Great Wine Capitals Global Network founder & managing director Catherine Leparmentier Dayot. Speakers include Rex Stults, government relations director, Napa Vintners Association and Jennifer Lynch from McLaren Vale Grape Wine & Tourism Association. The group will discuss wine tourism.
