Diageo yesterday re-opened its Tennessee whisky distillery, the George Dickel Distillery, which will resume production of the brands George Dickel No. 8 and George Dickel No. 12 Tennessee Whiskies.

The master distiller, J. David Backus said: “Somewhere today George Dickel is toasting us, lifting a glass of his favorite beverage and celebrating the continuing tradition of producing the fine whisky that bears his name and using the same hand-made processes he made famous more than a century ago.”

More than 300 people attended the event including state and local elected officials and dignitaries.

“What George Dickel started in 1870, Diageo continues today. We are grateful that his legacy and fine whisky lives on,” said Backus.
