The UK-based soft drinks producer Cadbury Schweppes has had a disappointing start to the summer sales period, according to a report in the UK press yesterday.

UK newspaper The Sunday Telegraph quoted statistics from the US market research group IRI, which showed that Cadbury’s soft drink sales are currently 4.1% below the same period last year, after a poor performance in June. The figures show that the US soft drinks market as a whole has slumped by 0.4%.

The report said that the IRI statistics suggested that in June Cadbury’s sales were down 8.4% compared with the same month last year.

By far the poorest performer was the 7-Up brand, which fell 21.6% compared with a year ago. Dr Pepper meanwhile is down 4.9% in June and 3.6% over the 12-month period.
