The UK-based sweets and soft drinks group, Cadbury Schweppes, has agreed a US$166m five-year deal with New York City to supply its schools and local Government buildings with soft drinks vending machines.

According to reports, Cadbury-Schweppes beat off competition from both the Coca-Cola Company and PespiCo for the contract. However, the placement of soft drinks vending machines in schools has become a thorny political issue for soft drinks companies, notably in California.
