The vodka group SPI has won the rights to the Stolichnaya vodka trademark in Ukraine, the news agency Interfax reported today.
It quoted an SPI press release which said that the company had come to an agreement with the Ukrainian state-run concern Ukrspirt over ownership rights to seven registrations and three registration applications to trademarks containing the name ‘Stolichnaya’ in various versions.
“Taken together, these registrations and applications represent the full range of rights to the ‘Stolichnaya’ brandname in Ukraine,” the press release said.
SPI, which apparently beat several applications for the rights from other groups, owns the international rights to Stolichnaya. However it produces the brand from Latvia since it lost a trademark battle for the vodka with the Russian government last year, which subsequently returned the Russian domestic rights for Stoli to the state run Soyuzplodoimport.
