SABMiller has launched a guide to help parents talk to their children about alcohol, as part of the brewer’s responsible drinking campaign.

SABMiller’s ‘Open the Facts’ guide for parents will run on the brewer’s responsible drinking website, Talkingalcohol.com.

The initiative features a video interview with leading adolescent psychologist, Professor Christopher Stones, from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa.

Kristin Wolfe, head of alcohol policy at SABMiller, said: “The message is getting out that parents have a lot more influence over underage drinking than they think.”

Research commissioned by the UK Government shows that parents are the main source of alcohol for almost half of 10 to 17-year-olds, according to SABMiller. The legal drinking age in the UK is 18 years.
