The head distiller of Scotch whisky brand Laphroaig, Iain Henderson, retires from Allied Domecq, the brand’s parent company, this month, after a 30-year career in the industry.

Henderson worked at 10 malt distilleries during his career and managed the distinct flavours of some of the world’s most successful whisky brands, but he is best known for his tenure at Laphroaig.

Frank Coleman, senior vice president of public affairs for the Distilled Spirits Council of the US, said: “Iain is a force in the Scotch industry – visiting with him was like meeting George Washington. He certainly has been one of the leading figures in popularising the Scottish malts, which are now a worldwide phenomenon.”
