Greene King has said that beer sales outperformed a shrinking UK market in the first 49 weeks of the brewer’s fiscal year.
Volume sales of own-brewed beer rose by 4% for the 49 weeks to 11 April compared to the same period of the previous year, Greene King said today (28 April).
The rise compares to a UK beer market down 6% and a cask ale market down 3% in the same timeframe, said the brewer of Old Speckled Hen and Greene King IPA.
“We are confident of meeting our expectations for this financial year,” said the group, which also has a pub business.
“We are still cautious for the remainder of 2010 as election uncertainty, rising taxes, public sector cutbacks and fragile consumer confidence may continue to limit consumer spending,” it said.
