Wine firm Baron de Ley has bought the Carbonera-Bergasa company in order to develop a portfolio of high quality white wines from Spain’s Rioja region.
Baron de Ley said late last week that it acquired Carbonere-Bergasa and its 500-hectare estate in Rioja in October. Financial details were not disclosed, but Baron de Ley said it would spend EUR5m (US$6.75m) on a project to develop high-end white wines on the estate.
“Behind this purchase lies the first serious project in Rioja for a large scale, high quality development of the new white varieties approved three years ago by the regulatory body of the D.O.,” said Spain-based Baron de Ley.
