According to reports, the Belgian brewing combine, Interbrew, has made a bid for a 50% stake in the Serbian brewer, Apatin. According to the report on the BETA news agency the bid was approved by the company’s shareholders.

Interbrew, which currently holds a 9.37% stake in the brewer, has not commented on the speculation but said that shareholders in Apatin, the principal brewing force in Serbia, were in favour of forging a strategic partnership with the Belgian group.

Interbrew acquired its stake in Apatin in May 2002 for around €17m (US$18.4m).
