RUSSIA: SPI claims rulings confirm ownership of Stoli

The SPI Spirits Group has claimed that recent Russian court rulings confirm its ownership of the rights to Stolichnaya and a number of other Russian-produced vodka brands. In an extensive communiqué, SPI stated that the rulings had followed attempts by Russia's Ministry of Agriculture to effectively renationalise a company which had already been legally privatised 10 years ago.

SPI said that the Leninsk-Kuznetskiy City Court had ruled in March that the Ministry of Agriculture had illegally registered 17 trademarks belonging to SPI, including Stolichnaya, and ordered Rospatent, the Russian Patent Office, to reregister SPI as the legal trademark owner, which it has now done.
