Russian Standard Vodka has acquired the Buinsky distillery from Tatspirtprom in the Russia-controlled Republic of Tartarstan.
Russian Standard confirmed to just-drinks late last week that it has acquired Buinsky distillery for US$20m. The Buinsk-based distillery will increase Russian Standard’s potential production capacity and give the group greater control over its supply chain.
“We have dreamt about the distillery purchase for a long time because of our high demands of the production quality,” said Russian Standard’s founder and owner, Roustam Tariko. “This purchase is the next step of our strategy of building the global brand and [a] vertically-integrated company,” he said.
Russian Standard will transport new-make spirit from Buinsky distillery to its vodka production plant on the outskirts of St Petersburg. Buinsky distillery only opened in late 2003, but Tatspirtprom said that the plant’s capacity was “redundant” to its operations.
Tatspirtprom’s general director, Giorgiy Kupriyanov, called the deal a “bargain”. He added: “As a result of this partnership, the Republic of Tatarstan will receive the funds for the investment to its development and also additional funds from tax proceeds.”
