Efes Brewery, thanks to a US$25m loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, has acquired the Russian Amstar Brewery.


The deal for the Russian Urals-based brewer was announced to the Istanbul Stock Exchange yesterday. Cash will be paid for 30% of the stake but no other financial details were revealed.


On Wednesday the EBRD said that half of its six-year loan to Efes has been syndicated to Abn Amro Bank.


Moscow Efes Brewery is a subsidiary of Efes Breweries International.


Amstar, located in Ufa, has an annual brewing capacity of 1.2 million hectoliters and produces and markets the Sokol brand in the local premium segment, the company said.
