PepsiCo has launched a zero-sugar Gatorade that contains 10g of protein.

Gatorade Zero with Protein launched in the US last month and adds to PepsiCo’s portfolio of protein products for the Gatorade brand. The company already makes an RTD Gatorade shake that contains 30mg of protein as well as protein powders and bars.

A group spokesperson told just-drinks that Gatorade Zero with Protein aims to “kickstart recovery” and provides electrolytes for supporting hydration. The extension is available in three flavours – Fruit Punch, Cool Blue and Glacier Cherry.

Marketing activity featuring US soccer player Abby Wambach and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt will support the launch.

In January, PepsiCo announced plans to will develop plant-based protein beverages in a new joint-venture with meat-alternative manufacturer Beyond Meat.
