Nestlé is set to launch its latest attempt in the UK to run on-premise Nespresso outlets in the country.

The Nespresso Bar will be located near Liverpool Street train station in London in what Nestlé’s coffee subsidiary labelled as a “strategic move”.

The coffee business added it hopes to add more UK on-the-go coffee bar locations “at a later date”.

Anna Lundstrom, the CEO of Nespresso’s business in the UK and Ireland, said: “The on-the-go coffee experience is now an intrinsic part of the UK community, with 11 million of us visiting coffee shops across the country every day.”

Lundstrom told UK newspaper The Times it will be the first Nespresso Bar concept to be launched in Europe and expects the format to be rolled out across London and the UK.

Nestlé opened two Nespresso coffee shops in London in 2016 and 2017. The Swiss giant closed the outlets in 2019 to focus on its retail outlets, which sell Nespresso’s coffee pods and machines. The business operates 25 retail outlets in the UK, with ten in London.

The Nestlé subsidiary launched its first takeaway coffee at stores in New York and in Cannes in France in 2017. In November 2023, Nespresso launched a similar ‘Nespresso to go’ concept at its Gran Vía boutique store in Madrid, Spain.

In 2023, the Nespresso business generated SFr6.4bn ($7.2bn), growing organically 5.3% on the year prior.

Earlier this year, Nestlé announced plans to invest $100m to expand its coffee production in Vietnam.

The money will be used to double the processing capacity of the company’s coffee lines at its Tri An factory in the south-eastern province of Dong Nai.

It brings the total sum invested in the Tri An plant to $500m, the Nescafé producer said.
