Exports of the Mexican spirit Tequila were up 20% in the first half of 2003 compared to the same period last year, according to the Tequila Regulatory Council.


Sales of the premium 100% agave Tequilas increased 19.85% to 5.3m litres, compared to 3.2m litres in the first half of 2002.


Sales of other Tequilas grew to 46m litres, up 16.16%.


Of all the sales made 37.3m litres were exported in bulk to be bottled abroad and 14m litres were exported already bottled.
