The Coca-Cola Co has begun construction of a bottling plant in Malaysia.
Located in Enstek Industrial Park in Negeri Sembilan, the new plant will provide Coca-Cola and Sprite for the Malaysian market, and is the first step in the firm’s plan to invest MYR1bn (US$285m) in the country over the next five years.
Coca-Cola said yesterday (15 March) that it plans to boost further growth in what it claims is “a very important South East Asian market”.
“This investment represents the Coca-Cola system’s strong commitment to Malaysia and its consumers in creating job opportunities and helping in building a better community,” said Glenn Jordan, president of the Pacific group of Coca-Cola.
The investment is expected to create up to 800 jobs at the bottling plant, and between 6,000 and 8,000 jobs with local suppliers.
“The new plant will provide the 27m local consumers with easier access to a wide range of Coca-Cola products. Currently, the annual per capita consumption of Coca-Cola products in Malaysia is well below that of many ASEAN countries,” the firm said.
