KENYA: Government approves Castle takeover

According to reports, the Kenyan government has given the go-ahead for the takeover of Castle Brewing Kenya (CBK), the South African Breweries subsidiary, by Diageo-owned East African Breweries Ltd (EABL). Finance Minister, Chris Obure, said in the Kenya Gazette that he had authorised the deal which was announced last month with the loss of around 1,000 jobs at the Thika brewery.

No announcement has yet been made regarding the complementary Tanzanian element in the deal struck by SAB and Diageo last month which was blocked by regulatory authorities there shortly after the deal was first announced.
