Coming up at this year’s London International Wine Fair…

  • The Moscow International Wine Expo has organised a briefing, entitled ‘An Insight into the Russian Wine Market‘ (Stand Q75). This briefing will introduce the Russian wine market situation, with a particular focus on import operations. Imported wines accounted for 30% from a total of 87.8m cases in Russia in 2010 and the structure of imports has been positively affected for European and New World wines. This provides grounds for optimism. The session, presented by Russian wine writer Eleonora Scholes, will take place on the Thursday, from 1130 to 1300. For further information or to register please contact Elena Porman at ep@krascci.ru.
  • The Sparkling Wine Review 2011 (Litmus Stand G4) will be the subject of a meet-up at this year’s LIWF, on the Tuesday from 1600. Over “a chilled glass of fizz and nibbles”, find out more about the analysis report from the first Sparkling Wine Review, held in November. Also covered will be how this year’s Sparkling Wine Review will work, and how wines can be entered to be benchmarked. For further details and to RSVP, contact Rachel Child at rachel.child@provencommunication.co.uk.
  • Stellenbosch Winery Spier will bring its senior winemaker, Johan de Viliers, to the LIWF to host a mini-vertical tasting of Chenin Blanc and Pinotage from its super-premium Private Collection range, aimed exclusively at the independent and on-trade sector. In a session, to take place on the Tuesday between 1515 and 1600 (Masterclass Theatre), de Viliers will look at three vintages past and present to give an idea of how the current vintage will show in years to come. To register for a place or for further details, contact Stephi Murdoch at stephanie.murdoch@plb.co.uk.
  • Champagnes Canard-Duchene and Thiénot will be part of the Groupe Thiénot presence (Stand G30/2) at ExCel. Canard-Duchene will use the event to show its newly-launched Authentic range and to introduce the new addition to the selection, an organically–grown champagne called ‘Authentic Green’. Also at the show will be the first showing of the newly-repackaged Charles VII Champagne range. Champagne Thiénot, meanwhile, will be showing its main lines including Brut NV, Rose and Vintage 2004, new to the UK market this year. There will also be a selection of the ‘family’ cuvees such as the Cuvee Stanislas Blanc de Blancs 2004 and Cuvee Alain Thiénot 2000.
