India-based distiller NV Group aims to quadruple its production capacity by 2012, according to a report.
NV Group will spend INR450 crore (US$99m) to take its spirits production capacity to 750,000 litres by 2012, according to India’s Economic Times newspaper. It cited company chairman Ashok Jain as saying that NV will increase capacity at its distilleries in Assam and Andhra Pradesh.
The news is yet another example of India’s buoyant spirits market, which, like the national economy, has largely withstood the effects of the global economic downturn.
At the end of last week, NV Group and France’s Belvedere announced that they had signed a tie-up in India. The deal will bring Polish Sobieski vodka to India, where it will be produced at NV’s distillery in the state of Haryana. Also in the pipeline are flavoured vodkas, Marie Brizard Liqueur, premium RTDs and brandy.
