INDIA: Government set to reduce spirit import duties

Western exporters had threatened to take India to the World Trade Organisation if it did not honour its commitments. US and European spirit producers are aggrieved that India has not only failed to implement last year’s phased tax cut but has also imposed new state tariffs. The combined tax rate for imported spirits is currently between 470% and 710%.
