The Brazilian brewer, AmBev, is reportedly planning to invest $50m in building a brewery in Guatemala. The company’s representative in Guatemala, David Almeida, was reported as saying that the new project would directly create 680 jobs and indirectly a further 1,800.

The market leader in Guatemala is Cerveceria Centroamericana which produces the Cerveza Gallo brand, the best-selling brand in the country for more than 100 years.

AmBev, now the fourth largest brewing force in the world, has stated that it wants to expand in Central America and the Caribbean.
