Per capita consumption of sparkling wine in Germany fell by 3% in 2002 to 4.1 litres, according to statistics published by the German Association of Sparkling Wine Producers.

The association said that sparkling wine consumption was strongly affected by the business cycle. According to the association’s statistics, Rotkaepchen, was the best-selling sparkling wine brand with sales of 51.3m bottles in 2002.

The sparkling wine producer, Rotkaeppchen-Mumm Sektkellereien GmbH, which produces the Mumm and MM Extra brands in addition to Rotkaepchen, recorded turnover of €334m (US$354.2m) in 2002.
