Les Grands Chais de France (GCF) has reintroduced Blue Nun in the UK, bringing the German wine brand back with new packaging and an initial focus on online retail.
The relaunch follows GCF’s 2024 acquisition of Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben, the German producer behind the brand.

According to a statement, the relaunch starts with two wines – Authentic White and Riesling.
Authentic White is available via Ocado, while Drink Supermarket stocks both wines.
A GCF spokesperson said Blue Nun “never disappeared entirely” from the UK. However, it was absent from “major mainstream UK grocery listings for several years”.
“The relaunch with Ocado and online specialists marks its official return to widespread, national UK retail distribution under GCF,” the wine group spokesperson told Just Drinks.
GCF confirmed “further distribution” is being planned and said the company is holding talks with other retailers.
The wine giant dismissed concerns the brand carries an old-fashioned image. Instead, GCF sees the history “as a major strength, not a hurdle”.
“Blue Nun has amazing brand awareness across generations, which is an incredible foundation to build on. Consumers today, especially younger demographics, are embracing nostalgic, iconic brands but expect modern quality,” the spokesperson said.
According to GCF, Blue Nun is the “bestselling German wine brand of all time”, having sold more than one billion bottles in 64 countries since its launch in 1921.
The company described Blue Nun Authentic White, at 10% abv, as having “aromas of apple, peach and citrus”.
The Riesling, at 9% abv and made from grapes grown in Germany’s Rheinhessen region, is a “fuller-bodied wine” with tropical flavours.
GCF UK marketing manager Henry Colyer said: “Blue Nun is one of the great success stories in the wine industry because it introduced millions of people around the world to German wine.
“At GCF, we share the belief that wine should be welcoming, enjoyable and easy to discover. We’re proud to be bringing Blue Nun back to UK consumers and to introduce a new generation of drinkers to this iconic brand.”
Drink Supermarket marketing manager Jital Rao added: “Blue Nun is a brand that instantly resonates with UK consumers, so stocking the refreshed range was an easy decision for us.
“We’ve seen a fantastic response since launch, with strong early sales that reflect both the brand’s heritage and its renewed appeal.”
