Remy Cointreau has played down the impact of a strike by workers at its Piper-Heidsieck business in the middle of the Champagne grape harvest.

Around 40 workers at Piper-Heidsieck have been on strike since Friday (17 September) in protest at Remy Cointreau’s plan to cut jobs at the Champagne house.

Their action comes at the height of the Champagne grape harvest, but Remy Cointreau has sought to play down fears of any disruption. “There is no impact on the business,” a company spokesperson told just-drinks today (20 September).

“We hope this week that we will find an agreement,” she said, adding that talks between workers and the company were ongoing at Piper-Heidsieck’s headquarters in Reims.

Remy plans to cut up to 45 jobs from a Piper-Heisieck workforce of 160 as it seeks to restructure the business.
