Burgundy producer and trader Picard has taken a majority stake in northern Cote de Rhone wine trader, Maison Denuziere.

The acquisition will allow Picard to extend its range of wines to the Rhone Valley from north to south, while also gaining Denuziere’s important customer portfolio in the cellar, cafe, hotels and restaurants in the Lyon region.

Picard acquired the Grandes Serres estate at Châteauneuf-du-Pape in January 2001.
Given the currently poor market conditions for French wines, and in particular for Burgundy exports, the purchase also provides scope for Picard to diversify into vineyards in other region.

It already has a controlling stake in Maison Foucher-Lebrun (Sancerre), the Klein Vanner distilleries (Ingwiller) et Girard (Jonquières).
