Not surprisingly, the CIVB report found the impact had been strongest in the UK market where the New World wine boom has been particularly strong. The report said that Bordeaux had lost half of its market share in the UK compared with 10 years ago, while New World wines had doubled their share to some 40% of the market.
FRANCE: Bordeaux confirms loss of share to New World
The Bordeaux wine bureau, the CIVB, has published figures confirming how French wines have lost market share to New World imports in major European wine markets. According to the CIVB survey published yesterday, French wines account for 66% of the market against 71% 10 years ago.
