The country’s rum producers, federated under the Union of Producers of Spirits and Liquors, have made the decision jointly. According to EU law, only products made from a sugar cane distillate can be called rum. The Czech product is generally made from molasses or corn alcohol.
CZECH REPUBLIC: Traditional Czech rum to be re-named from 2003
The traditional Czech rum, "Tuzemsky Rum" is to be re-named, Tumezak, from 2003 in order to comply with EU regulations, the spirits producer, Stock Plzen, has announced.
