On Friday we incorrectly stated that a special edition of the single malt whisky, Glenfiddich, had been barred from the US market because it has been made from whisky aged in Cuban rum barrels and therefore contravenes the longstanding US embargo on importing products from its Communist neighbour.

In fact Glenfiddich Havana Reserve was launched in June last year. Following legal counsel from lawyers of owner William Grant in New York, the company was advised that the 21 year old single malt (finished in casks that had previously contained Cuban rum) may contravene the Helms-Burton Act which restricts trading between the US and Cuba. The company subsequently decided not to export Glenfiddich Havana Reserve to the USA.
This means that the USA has not banned the product.
