The US-based soft drinks giant, Coca-Cola Co., has unveiled its first new Chinese script logo since it first went on sale in the country in 1979.

Paul Etchells, president of Coca-Cola Beverage Ltd (China), said China was the single most important market for the company and he believes it will be the company’s largest market within 10 years. “We are overtaking other larger markets year by year,” Etchells said.

China is currently Coca-Cola’s sixth largest market and Etchells says it will certainly move up to the fifth spot this year. “The new visual identity for Coca-Cola is a positive change that enhances the value of our brand and relationship with the local consumers,” Etchells said.

“Our company is confident it will achieve a double-digit growth rate in sales volume this year in China after a year-on-year increase of 14% last year,” added Coke’s vice president and marketing director in China, John Cheung. “To facilitate the goal, we will enhance our moves in small and medium-sized cities in order to expand our coverage in China.”
